  1. I believe that the ghost's main purpose is to use his son to seek revenge on Claudius for killing him and for marrying Gertrude. The ghost knows that his son is (probably) the only person who will agree to follow his instructions so he uses this to his advantage. I'm also making the assumption that the ghost is truly Hamlet's father and that, because the ghost is in spirit form, he cannot seek revenge himself and must instruct to actual living being to do so. I think that the term "use" also fits because he probably cares more about revenge than his son's well-being.

In Act I.5, it is the Ghost’s MAIN purpose to INSPIRE his son. I think that the ghost tries to inspire Hamlet to seek revenge on Claudius for killing him and also for marrying his wife. I believe this word fits the sentence better than the other words because the ghost is not forcing Hamlet to do anything that he doesn't want to do, he is just informing Hamlet in hopes of empowering to make things right and avenge his father's death. By doing this, I believe that the ghost hopes that the real truth will come out about his death and about Claudius.

  3. The ghost’s purpose was to guide hamlet. Hamlet was upset in the scenes prior because his family moved on from the father’s death. Hamlet seemed like he had a hunch that his father was murdered but he had no evidence to prove it. The ghost validates that Hamlet’s father was murdered by Claudius and guides Hamlet through a plan to avenge his father.

  4. The ghost is trying to GUIDE Hamlet in the right direction. Hamlet is extremely distraught in the previous scenes of Act 1 and in Act 1, Scene 5 the ghost gives Hamlet an outlet for all of his anger and depression known as revenge. I do not believe that the ghost is trying to use Hamlet for revenge because Hamlet also wants revenge against his Uncle Claudius.
Guide usually causes a person to think of someone showing you the right way to go however, guide can also conjour up images of someone leading you astray.

  5. I feel like the ghost's purpose is to USE Hamlet as almost a medium between the real and spiritual world. The ghost still has ambitions and goals, and using Hamlet will be the only way to accomplish them. Hamlet's father was murdered, and he wants revenge. He wants his son's new purpose in life to be getting justification for him by killing Claudius. I wish that the ghost was there for good and to help Hamlet, but I really think the ghost has more selfish tendencies.
